Biography

Robilee Frederick continues to references the ephemerae of light, darkness, and time in her work as a metaphor for the human experience of memory and loss.

This exhibition developed from Frederick's recent loss of four dear friends and is conceived as a celebration of those who are important in her life. She honors 16 people dear to her, manifesting them as symbolic imagery in her work: 16 points of light, 16 drops of water, 16 circles that could be cells or flowers or mysterious orbs.

Frederick uses gunpowder, incense, candles, ash, and burns to create her ever-present light circles and labyrinths, as the visual representations for the circle of life.

The multi-media, collaborative memorial Circle of Memory organized by an interesting group of women artists, including Frederick, is currently on display at the Fotografiska Museet, Stockholm, Sweden. The installation is intended to inspire recalling and celebrating the memory of children who have died or disappeared.

Robiliee Frederick's work is in the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts of the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and the Hess Collection in Napa, California.
