Biography

Drawing from Peter d’Agostino's extensive body of work over the past four decades, this exhibition bridges his early photo, text, and video works with recent new media projects, including the World-Wide-Walks.  Initiated in 1973, as video documentation / performances, The Walk Series evolved into interactive installations combining elements of natural, cultural, & virtual identities: mixed realities of walking through physical environments and of virtually surfing the web.  The selections in this exhibit explore a range of d’Agostino’s photographic and sculptural models – digital photo / video constructs of large scale installations. They include: Projections ( Quay Gallery, 1973); Comings and Goings ( San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 1977, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1978); TransmissionS: In the WELL ( Philadelphia Museum of Art, 1990); TRACES (University Art Museum, Berkeley, 1995 ); and World-Wide-Walks/ between earth & sky / MX ( Laboratorio Arte Alameda / Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, Mexico City, 2007).    D’Agostino’s work has also been shown at the Biennial exhibitions of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Gwangju, Korea, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
