Reception: Saturday, March 17, 2007, 3:00 - 5:00 PM

In celebration of the California College of the Arts' (CCA) one-hundredth anniversary, Braunstein/Quay Gallery presents a group show of alumni organized by guest curator Mary Snowden, the Chair of Painting and Drawing at CCA.  The five artists chosen for this exhibition are among her most recent, memorable, and talented students.

In his paintings, Jules de Balincourt uses color and narrative to critique and subvert the would-be superpowers of the world. (Balincourt bio)

Sarrita Hunn, through drawings and paintings, explores the basic structures that create powerful images: halftone screens for print media, pixel-based digital media, and television images from electronic currents. (Hunn bio)

Rajkamal Kahlon is interested in the space created when deconstruction is followed by a forced and visible reconstruction through collage. (Kahlon bio)

Pepe Mar creates collage sculptures that are heavily informed by consumer culture; their individual parts mainly consisting of found and purchased objects. (Mar bio)

In his landscapes on canvas, Robert Olsen paints night scenes bathed in the unnatural lights of mercury, sodium, neon, and fluorescent. (Olsen bio)

Mary Snowden has taught at CCA for 42 years.  The graduates selected for this exhibition represent the current and future strength of the California College of the Arts Painting and Drawing Department.  These artists all hail from different parts of the United States and have not previously exhibited in the San Francisco Bay Area. (Snowden bio)
